Restore the Earth Foundation, Inc. (REF), CITGO Petroleum Corporation (CITGO) and Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) planted 1,000 trees in Pass a Loutre, Louisiana to commemorate Hurricanes Katrina and Rita on August 28 and 29 as part of CITGO’s “Caring for Our Coast” initiative.
In the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, Pass a Loutre suffered major damage and subsidence, devastating vegetated marsh areas and creating large ponds, making it a critical area in need of restoration.
By joining Restore the Earth on a unique, “in the mud” experience, volunteers can gain insights into the fragility of environmental systems, local biodiversity, community resilience, and the valuable impact of restoration.
