Employees of Restore the Earth corporate partner volunteer to restore degraded ecosystems.

ITHACA, NY, November 10, 2017
: Restore the Earth Foundation (REF), a not-for-profit organization working to restore the Earth’s critical ecosystems, is excited to announce it will join a community of over 3,500 nonprofits in more than 40 countries as a 1% for the Planet nonprofit partner. Restore the Earth is proud to share their work with this distinguished network of international business members who have committed to making a difference toward environmental causes. Business members contribute at least one percent of their annual sales to environmental causes, with a mission to build, support and activate an alliance of businesses financially committed to creating a healthy planet.

“We are thrilled to join this group as a part of the 1% nonprofit partner network. We love the work of 1% for the Planet to bring dollars and doers together to accelerate smart environmental giving,’” said Taylor Marshall, Director of Sustainable Programs for Restore the Earth. “Their collaborative style is exactly how Restore the Earth and our partners have always approached ecosystem restoration—through partnerships of doers and on-the-ground action.”

Restore the Earth Foundation is currently restoring 1 million acres in the Mississippi River Basin, North America’s Amazon, mobilizing on-the-ground restoration of forests and wetlands. To date, the Foundation has restored over 50,000 acres along the Gulf Coast, mobilizing over 30,000 volunteers. This landscape scale approach builds community resilience by protecting human and wildlife ecosystems from extreme weather, creating jobs and recreational, activities and supporting the cultures and identities of people throughout the North America’s Amazon region.

Restore the Earth is well suited for partnerships with 1% for the Planet business members because of its ability to quantify and verify the full value of restoration through their EcoMetrics Model, which measures and monetizes the social, environmental and economic value created as a result of restoration. The EcoMetrics Model is independent, third-party verified, and aligned with international standards to properly verify the co-benefits created through environmental restoration.

“Nonprofit organizations play a critical role in solving the many challenges facing our planet. Our driving goal is to increase support for these activist organizations by engaging businesses as funders and partners in the work. We believe deeply that by coming together, by connecting dollars with doers, we can create positive solutions to the complex environmental problems of our time,” stated 1% for the Planet CEO, Kate Williams.

“Restore the Earth is thrilled to partner with 1% for the Planet, an organization taking bold, collaborative action to protect the environment. Through innovative partnerships, collaboration and common sense solutions, we can restore the Earth,” said Marshall.

About Restore the Earth Foundation
Restore the Earth Foundation (REF), is a 501(c)(3) non-profit. REF’s mission is to restore the Earth’s essential forest and wetland ecosystems, and deliver outstanding environmental, social and economic returns. These returns are then documented, verified, monetized and ready for third party audit, using REF’s EcoMetrics Model. REF has a successful track record, having restored over 50,000 acres along America’s Gulf Coast, funded by $40 million from private/public funding sources. Today, these reforested areas enhance resilient ecosystems, habitats and communities in self-sustaining systems. This restoration ensures the overall well-being, livelihood, identity and culture of communities.
